You Have Questions, We Have Answers!

The more you know, the easier the choice

Choice Energy is your local Alberta electricity and natural gas retailer.

How is Choice Energy different?2017-09-22T16:19:37-06:00

Choice Energy is doing something never done before.— offering our energy at our cost! That means you know exactly what you are paying for, all the time. All we add is our transaction fee, which depending on your bundle, can be less than 50¢ a day. You won’t pay less anywhere else.

What happens if I move?2017-09-22T16:19:22-06:00

You can transfer your contract with you to your new location. Just give us one month’s notice that you are moving, provide us with your new Site ID’s for electricity and natural gas, and we’ll take care of the rest.

If I don’t get paper bills, how do I know what I owe?2017-09-22T16:17:21-06:00

You can view your account online at any time, just by clicking on “view your account”. Each month we will email you ahead of your billing period to let you know how much your monthly bill will be. After the billing period we will send you another note letting you know what you paid.

What about my current provider?2017-09-22T16:19:08-06:00

Don’t worry, we take care of notifying your current provider and doing all the paperwork to switch you over.

If you are currently on the RRO (Regulated Rate Option), i.e., EPCOR or Direct Energy regulated services, all you have to do is fill out the sign up form – we take care of all the other paperwork to switch you over (including notifying your current provider). For some RRO providers all they require is 3 to 5 days’ notice to switch over to Choice Energy.

If you’re currently on a contract the only thing we can’t do for you is pay any penalty clauses they may have based on your existing contract. Make sure you are checking your existing contract or with your current provider before making the switch. We don’t force you into a contract or charge you penalties if you ever decide to leave, but not everyone can be the better choice.

Most providers require 30 days notice to switch, so just pick a date 30 days from today when you sign up! Your first bill will arrive (via email) as soon as possible after this date, but could take up to 40 days depending on your current supplier. Until then, your existing power supplier will continue to bill you.

What is the Regulated Rate Option (RRO)?2017-09-22T16:18:55-06:00

In Alberta, you can choose how you buy electricity. You can sign a contract with an Energy Retailer at an agreed contract price and terms. You also can buy your electricity at a regulated rate, often called the RRO. The regulated rate is the unit price of electricity (cents per kilowatt hour – kWh). The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) regulates Alberta’s investor-owned and municipally-owned utilities to ensure that customers receive electricity at a just and reasonable rate. This rate changes each month. If you have not chosen a competitive electricity retailer and you use less than 250,000 kWh per year, you will continue to be eligible for the RRO.

Who do I call if my power goes out?2017-09-22T16:18:42-06:00

If you have a power outage or other energy related emergency, please call the local utility company for your area (ATCO Electric, ENMAX, EPCOR, FORTIS Alberta, ATCO Gas, etc.). Contact numbers for the utility company may also be found on your current bill.

EPCOR 780-412-4500 (in Edmonton)
Fortis Alberta 310-WIRE (310-9473)
